Homegrown Strawberries

5-8-2012  | Mary Hartman

What? Homegrown strawberries in early May? Yes, that is correct. Our weather is unseasonably warm as it has been all winter. We don't usually have homegrown berries until late May or early June. Homegrown strawberries are only in for a short time, about 2-3 weeks, as long as there is not too much rain. These berries are more fragile than the Florida or California berries, more fragrant and much more tender. Plan to use them within a day or two of purchase. So, this calls for a little celebration. Make some biscuits, whip up some cream and have yourself some strawberry shortcake!
