
My Dad loved Tomatoes. He would call them "Maters" and slice them thick on a plate with fresh salt and pepper. Sometimes, he would even eat one like an apple. Now is the time to enjoy fresh "maters" as you like them. Sliced, or wedged or chopped. Dress with oil and vinegar, fresh basil or herbs as you desire. Even, just plain, a "mater" is quintessential summer.
